Choosing a Dehumidifier - What to Ask and Why

Monday, July 10, 2017

Living in our beautiful Ohio Valley has many benefits.  Humidity that averages 70% -- well over the recommended and comfortable 50% -- is NOT one of them.  Not only is it uncomfortable, but high moisture breeds mold, mildew and bacteria that can lead to allergies, asthma, and respiratory problems as well as stain ceilings and walls, damage furniture and much more.  The best way to address the problem is to invest in a dehumidifier.  But, how do you know what is right for you?

To Dehumidify or Not to Dehumidify: Determining Your Need

Friday, June 30, 2017

In our last article, we discussed how your home’s air conditioning system can help with humidity, but it isn’t a complete solution.  Many people find relief by adding a dehumidifier.

Air Conditioner or Dehumidifier: Do You Really Need Both?

Tuesday, June 27, 2017

Summer has arrived and, as if on cue, the humidity in the Ohio Valley has started rolling in.  Love it or hate it, it’s just one part of the ever-changing weather that we live with here in our beautiful region and so we make the best of it.  Excessive humidity however, moisture from outside combined with the moisture we create ourselves, can lead to mold and mildew and that can lead to all kinds of health problems if not kept in check.

Employee Spotlight: Tom Schloemer

Saturday, June 10, 2017

We recently took a few minutes to interview one of Crane’s most tenured and knowledgeable service technicians, Tom Schloemer, about the industry and his time with the company.  Tom got his start in the HVAC industry as a teenager, helping his step-father, Tom Crane.

Common A/C Problems and How to Handle Them

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

All home appliances eventually face mechanical problems.  Over time as machines get used they will inevitably deteriorate and/or malfunction. Knowing how to recognize, diagnose and mitigate issues quickly will help you to keep your unit running well for longer, as well as saving you money on a/c repairs and replacement.  The following are some of the most common HVAC problems and some simple solutions you can try yourself before calling in the experts.

Green Technology: HVAC in a Changing World

Saturday, May 20, 2017

When we last met we talked about a few of the newer trends in HVAC today such as the new energy efficient units, home automation and customizable systems.  Today, let’s look at some future trends – particularly green technologies -- and some that are already here that are changing the HVAC industry.

Hot Trends in Air Conditioning?

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

When you think of hot new trends, HVAC is probably NOT the first thing that pops into your mind.  But, as in any business, there are always current trends and HVAC is no exception. The last couple of years there have been some major revisions in energy efficiency standards spurring a lot of changes in the HVAC industry, most notably those that affect the environment.  Let’s look at a few of these.

What to Look for in a New Air Conditioner

Saturday, April 29, 2017

Summer is just around the corner so you're going through the Springtime checklist that we gave you a few weeks ago (you're welcome) and you've found some issues with your air conditioner that may be serious.  Obviously, the first thing to do is to call one of our certified technicians out to look over the unit.  If the unit is fairly new, it is likely still under warranty and may just some A/C repairs.  But what if you should end up needing to buy a new A/C unit?  Where do you even start?

Spring Is Sprung, The Grass Is Riz . . .

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

. . . Aaaaaaaaaaaaaachoo! I wonder where the tissue is . . . ugh!  OK, so it’s not exactly the way the age-old poem goes but I’ll bet I’m not the only one right now that is reciting it that way.    The “Ohio Valley Rot”, as my grandpa called it, is in full swing here in the Tri-State bringing with it sneezing, coughing, itchy, watery eyes and all kinds of other misery.  The bad news is that it’s going to get worse before it gets better (yuck).  The good news is there are steps you can take in your home to improve indoor air quality and lessen the severity of your symptoms until the season passes (yay).

Spring Checklist

Friday, April 7, 2017

Spring is making its way into the Tristate.  You’re beginning to think about warmer weather and spending lots of time outside hanging at the pool, grilling with the family and getting to know your yard again.  All of that sounds great but don’t forget about summer heat and humidity that will inevitably get here and the time you’ll still be spending inside to cool off.  You’re going to want to make sure that when you need it your air conditioner is ready and able.
