Thinking to bring home a cat or a dog? You must make sure that you are ready to handle all the responsibilities related to the care of your pet. Moreover, you should not overlook the fact that cats or dogs can affect the quality of air in your home. So, when you want to add a new member to your family, you should know how to maintain your HVAC system. That way, you and your family will be able breathe in good quality air. In this post, we’ll show you some tips for HVAC maintenance to ensure you have good air quality when you live with pets at your home.

1. Keep Your Home Clean

If you’re keeping your furry friend regularly bathed and groomed, home care would be simple for you. However, you should know that even through your pet is being properly groomed, they are prone to shedding. That means you’ll have mop the floor and clean the carpet to get rid of the fur your cat or dog leaves behind.

2. Air Purifier Is a Must

Air purifiers that have HEPA filters should be used by all homeowners who share their home with a pet. It acts as a shield against fur and other materials left behind by your pet. There are many different kinds of purifiers available in the market and the performance of each varies. Do some research on different kinds of air purifiers to find the one that’s right for you.

3. Change Your HVAC Air Filters

When you are living with furry friends at your home, your air filters will have to deal with a lot more than what they would handle in a usual home. Eventually, you’ll start noticing that the air isn’t as cool as it used to be.

You may have to change the HVAC filters more often than you would normally do. Just remember that if you buy high quality filters, you will have to replace them less frequently. Therefore, when you have pets in your home, get high quality HVAC filters.

4. Clean Air Vents and Air Ducts

Air vents and air ducts are one of the favorite hiding places of pet pollutants and hair. Therefore, you’ll have to keep an eye on your air vents’ and air ducts’ condition and cleanliness. Particles left in the vents and ducts can have a major impact on air quality throughout your home. Cleaning the air vents and air ducts will optimize the air quality in your home. When you are cleaning the air ducts, turn off the air conditioner.

By following the tips mentioned above, you’ll be able to maintain good air quality in your home and keep your HVAC system in top-notch condition. If your HVAC system becomes a victim of pet dander and you can’t clean it yourself, call Crane Heating and Air to do the job for you.
