The Best Ways to Keep a Data Center Cool
Wednesday, December 12, 2018

In the present day and age, organizations cannot survive without efficient and sound working data centers. If an organization’s data center stops working due to some technical problem or error, millions of transactions could be affected. Not just that, but communication and sharing of important information would also come to an abrupt stop.

In this blog, we’ll show you some of the best ways to keep your organization’s data center cool and safe.

1 - Raised Flooring

One of the most effective tips to keep your data center functioning at its best is to elevate the flooring and provide cool air from underneath. This way cool air will enter IT equipment, collect the heat produced by the running equipment, and dispose of the warm air effectively.

2 - The Hot & Cold Aisles

Generally, data centers have both hot and cold aisles. Make sure all IT equipment is placed in such a way that the air inlets are facing the cold aisle, where all the cooling units are providing cool air that is sucked into IT equipment in order to keep it cool. The hot air released from the back of the equipment will return to the cooling HVAC units through the hot aisle. Such a design separates cold air paths from hot air paths and keeps IT equipment from heating up.

3 - Consider Liquid Cooling Techniques

Liquid cooling methods do not maintain a constant temperature in data centers. Instead, these cooling techniques only provide cool air to those parts of the data center that need it the most. Thus, you can consider installing a liquid cooling system that delivers perfectly chilled water straight to a server cabinet or rack.

4 - Get Expert Advice

Every organization has a different kind of data center because every organization uses a data center differently. That’s why getting a professional advice from HVAC experts on how to maintain your data center seems like a fruitful idea. These experts will be able to guide you through the best options available that can keep your data center equipment cool and safe.

If you’re concerned about the efficiency of your data center and the longevity of its equipment, get in touch with Crane Heating & Air today and design your data center based on the professional advice of our expert tech staff.
