The Health Benefits Associated with Air Conditioning
Monday, December 3, 2018

Cool air might look like the best thing about air conditioning, but there are other benefits of air conditioning that prevent you from heat-related symptoms and make it easy for you to recover from various illnesses. On the other hand, you might come across people who badmouth air conditioning, saying it’s not good for health, which makes you wonder whether or not air conditioning makes people sick.

Air conditioning does not cause any health problems as long as your AC unit is properly maintained. However, if your AC unit does not get regular maintenance, there might be some health-related consequences.

This article will walk you through the benefits of air conditioning and several health-related problems associated with it that you might face if you don’t plan a regular maintenance of your AC unit.

The Health Benefits

In many parts of the world, air conditioning is not very common, which increases the risk of a health crisis. Kids and seniors who cannot tolerate heat waves are at risk of getting dehydrated and heat stroke in the countries that experience extremely harsh summers. Moreover, there are several heart diseases and immune disorders that are exacerbated due to the heat. The best way to prevent these heat-related symptoms is air conditioning. And that’s the biggest benefit of air conditioners.

The Indoor Air Quality

Air conditioners filter out bacteria present in the air, making the indoor air quality pure for us to breathe. Some special filters used in air conditioners remove mold, air pollution, allergens from the air as well. This makes the indoor environment suitable for those who are asthmatic or have respiratory issues. However, it’s important for you to know that all AC filters do not remove impurities from the air. The basic ones are only designed to take care of dust particles in the air.

Potential Health Concerns to Avoid

AC units that are too large for a room will cool the room quickly and will shut down without reducing humidity. An AC unit needs to run for some time in order to bring the humidity level down. High humidity can cause health problems because it provides an environment that promotes the growth of bacteria.

On the other hand, if the humidity level has gone too low, it can also cause problems. Dry air will make your skin and hair dry. Moreover, it can dry out sinuses, making it easy for you to develop respiratory infections. Although it’s rare, the refrigerant used in your AC unit might leak, and you might get exposed to it. The only way to prevent this exposure is to get your AC unit inspected at regular intervals without fail.

If your AC unit hasn’t been inspected for a long time now, you need to get it checked without further delay. Contact Crane Heating & Air and allow our experienced technicians to make sure your AC unit promotes good health.
