Windows Open or Closed?

As usual, the Cincinnati weather has kept everyone guessing.  With temperatures ranging from 40 to 80 the past few weeks, it’s hard to know just what to do to stay comfortable.

We’re here to address the hottest HVAC issue this time of year: windows open or closed?

You’ll have to decide for yourself whether you’ll be more comfortable with heat on, AC running, or windows open, but we can tell you definitively that if your windows are open, your HVAC needs to be off.

If you are constantly opening and closing the windows, it can be very tempting to let the fresh air in and leave the heat running for a few hours.  Or you may want to enjoy the last of the lingering summer heat without having to adjust the air conditioning.  But doing so requires your HVAC unit to run more than necessary, increasing your energy bills by as much as 100%!

So while the decision to wear a sweater or a t-shirt is still unclear, hopefully we’ve at clarified the window issue: windows open, HVAC off.
